Barbara P. Niehus
FSA, MAAA

Ms. Niehus is a consulting actuary with over 30 years of group life and health insurance experience. Her background encompasses a broad range of management and technical functions such as: product design, pricing, underwriting, administration, reinsurance, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory compliance, financial control, management reporting, experience analysis, and litigation support and management.

Ms. Niehus began her career in group benefits with Allstate Insurance Company where, as Corporate Accounts Director, she managed plans for Sears, Roebuck & Co. and its subsidiaries. She continued her career at Celtic Life Insurance Company where she was Executive Vice President responsible for the small group lines of business. Immediately prior to entering the consulting field, she was Chief Financial Officer for Group Operations of CNA.

She has been active in industry activities including participation through the Society of Actuaries and the Health Insurance Association of America. For the Society of Actuaries, she has been a member of the Health Section Council, served on the Elections Committee, and authored materials for the exam syllabus. She has addressed groups including the Society of Actuaries and the American Bar Association Torts and Insurance Practice Section.

Ms. Niehus is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. She is certified by Arias·US as a reinsurance arbitrator. She received her B.S. degree in Mathematics from the University of Chicago.
